The use of a C2 grade of carbide is recommended for wear resistance. If it's hard in any way, it can prove to be difficult, if not impossible, without grinding. Once the skin is gone, if the iron is soft, you can machine by pretty much any means you desire. Cast iron isn't hard to machine, and has its own built in lubrication (free graphite).

I looked but couldn't find any specific answers to end mill recommendations I will be milling some Ductile Cast Iron, on a Bridgeport and looking for recommendations on the type of end mill to use. Wash your cast iron with hot soapy water and dry thoroughly. Use a paper or cloth towel to rub a thin layer of a high-heat vegetable oil (such as canola or avocado) all over the surface (interior and exterior). You don't need much — just a thin layer. Place pan upside down on a center rack and bake for 1 hour.
