A mining claim is a selected parcel of federal land, valuable due to a specific mineral deposit or deposits, for which one has asserted a right of possession under the Mining Law. Rights are restricted to the development and extraction of a mineral deposit, as regulated by the Bureau of Land Management or the Forest Service.
